• Use the Putting Impact System for the Gate Drill

“If you can swing the putter through the gate, you will hit the ball in the center of the putter. If you make the Impact Plate go straight, then the ball will be on target." - Hank Haney

Let’s combine the 2 drills into one, simple, fun practice session.

This video is a conversation I had with Hank while we were filming the instruction for the Putting Impact System.

The footage is an out-take, but the content is awesome!

I’m headed to the green to make some putts,

  • I think the best drill is the Gate Drill

Michael Camastro of Michael Camastro Golf Academy at Broken Arrow Golf Club writes:

"I am a huge fan of Eyeline Golf. Your products have been a big success in my teaching. I think the best is the gate drill... all my students spend hours using this drill which has proven great results. You guys are the best keep it up!"

Thanks Michael! We have several products to help you set up the Gate Drill. Here are a couple examples:

  • Create a Stroke Path Model with Tees

Zach Johnson uses the Gate Trainer to help him set up 2 gates for his putter to travel through - one for the backswing, and one for the follow through.

Step #1  - Hit a few putts from the Gate Trainer to find the exact line of the putt.
Step #2  - Insert the tees as guides for your stroke - straight, arc, your choice.
Step #3 - Put the ball in the center of the gates (there is a hole in the Gate Trainer for this purpose)
Step #4  - Make a bunch of putts with a stroke you can rely on !

    Simple?  Yep!

  • Create the Gate Drill with the Putting Impact System

    Putting S.O.S. Fundamentals
Solid - hit the putt solid
Online - start the putt on the target line
Speed - hit the putt the correct speed

The Putting Impact System has the Gate Drill built in...

When Hank Haney gave us the design points for the System, he wanted to make sure it had the Gate Drill.

"Tiger's favorite drill is the Gate Drill that his father taught him. If you can swing the putter between the tees then you know you are hitting the putt in the center of the face."

So... we did as we were instructed and put in slots for the drill.

It is a great 1-2 combo:
    1.  Swing the putter between the tee gate
    2.  Make the Impact Plate go straight forward

    The result? Solid and straight.

    We love putting!

  • 5 - 10 Foot Putt Drill

    Putting S.O.S. Fundamentals
Solid - hit the putt solid
Online - start the putt on the target line
Speed - hit the putt the correct speed

    5-10 footers - Make 1/2 of 'em

The average Tour player makes 54% of his 5-10 foot putts.

    How many do you make?

    Here's a fun test:

    • Set up tees at 4 corners - 9' from the cup
    • Set up 4 more tees between the corners

Hit only one putt from each spot as you rotate around the cup.

Hit 20 putts and multiply your made putts by 5 - that is your %.

Do this periodically to see if you are making progress.

If you are not satisfied with your results ...

Success from this distance putt is mostly dependent on alignment and hitting the putt solid.

The Gate Drill with the mirror will help you improve both of these.
