Try this marking on your golf ball next time you play...

Humans are simply better at judging direction when both eyes are aligned behind the ball. That is how binocular vision works. From that position, your brain can more accurately assess the intended start line and slope of the putt. Once you step to the side and stand over the ball, that clarity drops and small alignment errors become harder to detect. This is not a confidence issue or a stroke issue. It is a limitation of human vision, which is why so many players struggle to fully trust their aim when they are standing over the ball.

The T-shape marking solves the next problem. Once you have picked your line from behind the ball, the perpendicular line makes it immediately clear whether your putter face is actually aimed at that line when you step over the putt. If the face is open or closed, you can see it right away. That visual confirmation removes doubt and prevents last-second adjustments. Because the line was chosen from the most accurate viewing angle, it becomes much easier to commit to it and simply roll the ball. Clear alignment leads to better commitment, and better commitment leads to better putting.
